The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) bestowed its 2022 President’s Medal on CARMA Co-Managing Partner and CEO for Europe & the Americas, Richard Bagnall MCIPR, at a ceremony in London’s National Gallery earlier this week.
In awarding Richard one of the organization’s highest honors, CIPR President Rachel Roberts said that Richard has “advised international clients on the best ways to measure the effectiveness of their PR and prove its value to the organisation for more than 25 years. During this time, he has built and led some of the world’s foremost communications measurement consultancies including Metrica, Gorkana and PRIME Research.”
She called out in particular the work he has done leading AMEC, the International Association for the Measurement and Evaluation of Communications, and the lead role he played developing the AMEC Integrated evaluation framework. AMEC’s framework is now acknowledged as global best practice for PR and comms practitioners should measure the effectiveness of comms and demonstrate the value of the function.
In addition to his current role with CARMA, Bagnall served until recently as the chair of The International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication (AMEC) and for the past decade has been a member of the UK Government’s GCS / Cabinet Office Evaluation Council.
Previous recipients of the CIPR President’s Medal include groundbreaking communicators such as Edward Bernays, Harold Burson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Richard Branson.
CARMA Group CEO Mazen Nahawi congratulated his colleague and lauded the selection, saying “I’m delighted that Richard has received this recognition not just for his outstanding career achievements, but also for the groundbreaking work that he continues to do to help organizations communicate more effectively.”
Richard commented: “I am thrilled to have receive this honour. Promoting best practice in PR and comms measurement and evaluation has been a lifetime’s mission of mine. I could not have had such a rewarding career without the support of colleagues, friends and clients. In particular I’d like to thank the executive team at AMEC for their tireless work, all of my global colleagues at CARMA who share the passion to make measurement meaningful, and our clients around the world who strive for the very best.”
